Management Team  
  Kevin F. Brown, DO, Medical Director, Inpatient Services
Dr. Brown specializes in acute rehabilitation for stroke, neurological disorders, head and spinal cord injuries, and bone and joint diseases. Dr. Brown hales from Michigan where he had practiced physical medicine and rehabilitation on both an inpatient and outpatient basis for over 21 years. He provided medical leadership for rehabilitation hospitals in Saginaw and Bay City, Michigan as well as for outpatient Amputee and Post Polio Clinics. After relocating in September of 2005, Dr. Brown and his family are proud to call Las Cruces their home.

Altaf Ahmed, M.D., Medical Director, Outpatient Services
Dr. Ahmed received his medical training at Bangalore University in India and at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in Scotland. He is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and has extensive experience in both inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation. Dr. Ahmed joined the RHSNM team in January 2006, relocating from Albuquerque, where he served as Medical Director for a rehabilitation hospital as well as Clinical Assistant Professor for the Department of Orthopedics at the UNM School of Medicine. Dr. Ahmed enjoys playing golf and traveling.

Tony Hernandez, Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Hernandez has 16 years of healthcare management and business development experience, with an emphasis on the development and operation of post-acute inpatient facilities. He is passionate about providing the clinical expertise to match the needs of the community. He is a graduate of Kansas Newman College in Wichita, Kansas with degrees in Medical Technology and Business Administration.

Sabrina Benefield, MPT, Director of Therapy Operations
Sabrina Benefield graduated with her Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Texas at El Paso. She has extensive experience in therapy leadership in acute and in-patient rehab facilities. She specialized in stroke rehabilitation and continues to participate in national stroke organizations. She is currently the Program Director for RHSNM’s stroke and TBI program development teams. Sabrina has also served in various roles for Ernest Health including the Director of Patient Care Management.

Lesa Royse, Director of Nursing Operations
Ms. Royse has over 17 years of progressive clinical and leadership experience across the entire continuum of care, including ICU, Hospice, Home Health, and rural health. She graduated from the University of Oklahoma, starting her career in Oklahoma and continuing in New Mexico and El Paso. She has served as the chief nurse executive in an acute care hospital, as well as for hospice and home health agencies. She and her husband have made Las Cruces their home for the last eight years.

Beverly Muñoz, Director of Quality and Risk Management
Ms. Muñoz has extensive nursing experience in a variety of settings across the continuum of care. She is well-versed in nursing management, project development, performance improvement, infection control and risk management. She earned an Associates Degree of Applied Science in Nursing from the New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs, New Mexico, and a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Nursing from the University of Phoenix.

Kimberly Encapera, M.D., Utilization Review Program Director
Dr. Encapera is a graduate of the University of Louisville Medical School in Louisville, KY. She completed her residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Carolinas Rehabilitation in Charlotte, NC. Dr. Encapera’s primary interests are in the areas of musculoskeletal medicine, prosthetics and orthotics, and neural rehabilitation. She is a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the American Medical Association and the New Mexico Medical Society. She is available for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation consultations at Mountain View Regional Medical Center and Memorial Medical Center. In her free time she enjoys athletics including hiking, jogging and biking.

Jared Udall, Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Udall comes to us with a wide range of healthcare experience ranging from long term acute care to most recently a not-for-profit acute care facility. His daily operating philosophy revolves around his motto of “Poor carpenters blame their tools”. He received a Masters of Business Administration in Health Care Management from the University of Phoenix.

Adolfo Puga, Director of Plant Operations
Mr. Puga brings us over 17 years of experience in health care facility management and maintenance. He has earned a Bachelor of Science in management from the University of Phoenix and an Associates Degree in Refrigeration/HVAC Technology from Western Technical Institute.

Yolanda Mendoza, Director of Human Resources
Ms. Mendoza contributes over 17 years of experience in various areas of Human Resources and management. She has held prior positions of Senior Employee Relations Specialist, Employment Supervisor and Human Resources Coordinator. She also has extensive knowledge of State and Federal regulations regarding employment practices.

Phillip J. Leon, Director of Marketing and Business Development
Mr. Leon has 12 years of sales and marketing experience in the health care industry. He has worked primarily in the pharmaceutical industry for such companies as Alza, Parke-Davis, Pfizer, and Johnson and Johnson. Mr. Leon was responsible for product launches, developing territories, and training new hires. He received a Bachelors Degree from The Wichita State University in Wichita, KS.
