Jumar Apolinario, MD, Outpatient Medical Director
Dr. Apolinario is a board certified physiatrist specializing in the treatment of acute and chronic pain syndromes, musculoskeletal disorders, stroke, brain injury and spinal cord injuries. Dr. Apolinario completed his medical training in the Philippines and completed various residency programs in Chicago, Illinois. He has served as a staff physiatrist for inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services in the McAllen area and the medical director for a rehabilitation hospital in Weslaco. Dr. Apolinario is a member of the International Spinal Injection Society and the American Academy of Pain Management. He brings over 10 years of experience to South Texas Rehabilitation Hospital.

Jessie Eason Gonzales, Chief Executive Officer
Jessie Eason Gonzales has over 15 years of marketing and management experience working in both the public and private sectors in South Texas. Ms. Eason Gonzales brings passion and the desire to offer all patients an opportunity to heal emotionally and physically to her position. She is committed to patients, employees and EHI Inc.’s Guiding Principles. She has a Bachelor’s of Business Administration degree in Management/Marketing from the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Sue Thomsen, Chief Financial Officer
Sue Thomsen has over 20 years of management and accounting experience in the healthcare and hospitality industries. Her past professional experience also includes serving as the Financial Accountant for a 112 bed acute care hospital in South Texas. Ms. Thomsen holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance from Mankato State University in Mankato, Minnesota.

Susie (Myung-Sook) Coulson, Director of Pharmacy
Susie Coulson brings several years of pharmacy experience stemming from positions as acute hospital ICU pharmacist, nursing home consultant and project and research directorships. Ms. Coulson’s education includes a Master of Public Health, Doctorate in Pharmacy and Ph.D in Pharmacology.

Butch Durham, Director of Quality & Risk Management
Butch Durham brings over 18 years of healthcare management and operations experience to his role at STRH. He has served as the Director of Operations for an acute care hospital in the lower Rio Grande Valley. Mr. Durham’s education includes a Bachelor of Arts degree from Howard Payne University, a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree from Texas A&I University.

Jun Ellorimo, Director of Therapy Operations
As Director of Therapy Operations, Jun Ellorimo leads a dynamic therapy team in administering the hospital’s inpatient and outpatient therapy. Jun’s past experience includes being a lead therapist at local acute care hospital and Director of Therapy for a local orthopedic surgeon. In addition, Jun has worked as a traveling Physical Therapist supervisor in several contract skilled nursing facilities in Texas. Jun is a licensed Physical Therapist with a Bachelor of Science Degree from Cebu Doctor’s College in the Philippines.

Sylvia N. Garza, Director of Nursing Operations
Ms. Garza graduated from Incarnate Word College in San Antonio, Texas with her Bachelor of Nursing Degree, and earned her Master of Science (MSN) in Nursing Administration from the University of Texas at Brownsville. Ms. Garza has over 30 years in the nursing field with extensive experience in different levels of nursing management including Assistant Administrator of a new LTACH facility and Administrative Director of Nursing for various adult medical units for one of the largest health systems in the Rio Grande Valley.

Antonio (Tony) Rodriguez, Director of Human Resources
Tony Rodriguez brings several years of human resource experience working for a Pediatric Outpatient Rehabilitation Organization in the Rio Grande Valley. Tony was responsible for coordinating recruiting and human resource functions for this seven facility rehab center. Tony also served as a legal assistant for 11 years.

Joel Rolfzen, Director of Plant Operations
Joel Rolfzen brings over 23 years of experience in the areas of plant operations and engineering in various healthcare facilities throughout the United States. Joel has also been involved in the start up of a 112-bed hospital in South Texas as the Engineering Coordinator.

Mary I. Valdez, Director of Marketing & Business Development
Mary Valdez has over 13 years of experience in marketing and public relations in the healthcare industry. She also has media experience having worked for a local newspaper and TV station. For the last 15 years, Ms. Valdez has been very active in the Brownsville community serving on numerous non-profit organizations. She has a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Communications from Texas A& I University in Kingsville.
